Types of Operating System
Operating system types by user
Operating Systems is divided into two parts based on the user -
Single User Operating System –
Single user operating system allows a single user to work at a time, meaning that more than one user account can not be created at the same time only one person can work For example, MS DOS, Windows 95, 98
Multiuser Operating System –
An operating system in which you can create more than one user account and can work on them called multi user operating system, in which each user is given a terminal connected to the computer. Linux unique for Windows, modern versions of Windows
Operating system type based on working mode
On the basis of working mode it is also divided into two parts –
Character User Interface –
Character User Interface is also known as a command line interface. This type of operating system works by typing in. It provides special types of command to operate the computer. And only text is used. A good example of this type of operating system is MS DOS.
Graphical user interface
graphical user interface, as it appears in its name, is
based on operating system graphics, that is, you can input the computer through
mouse and keyboard and there The interface that is given to you is graphical or
there are all the buttons on the menu which will be a very easy interface. Land
Types of Operating System
Types of operating
systems
The development of the operating system is also being
developed on the basis of computer development and computer based generation,
thus operating systems are as follows:
- Batch Processing System
- Time Sharing or Multi User Operating System
- Multi Tasking Operating System
- Real Time Operating System
- Multi Process Operating System
- Embedded Operating System
- Distributed Operating System
The Batch Processing
System is one of the first operating systems in the computer to sell the
batch processing system. Users of the selling operating system give their job
to the operator in the punch card or similar type of device instead of using it
manually and the operator runs and runs the group of all jobs. Normally the
selling operating system runs a program at once, its use is no longer used, but
some mainframe computers are still being used in it.
Time sharing or
Multi-user operating system is used in time sharing or multi-user operating
systems, through which different users can use the same program at the same
time. In this type of operating system, users' accounts are created so that the
user is aware of how much permission to use the software.
Multi Tasking
Operating System - Multiple tasking tasks are carried out at the same time
in multi-tasking operating systems. In reality, the processor provides time to
different processes quickly, which is called CPU scheduling. This task is so
much faster that the user seems to have all the work together. The advantage of
this is that the CPU's free time is used best.
Real Time Operating
System - Real Time Operating System is also known as Data Processing
System. It has a predetermined time to implement an event that is called
Response Time. These are primarily used in process control and
telecommunication, they are used in scientific research work, medical imaging
systems, industrial control systems, robots, air traffic control etc. It is of
two types
Hard real time system
guarantees to complete any sensitive tasks at regular intervals, they do not
have secondary memory or are available in very small quantities.
Soft Real Time System
These are slightly less restricted than hard real time systems but they give
priority to sensitive tasks above all other tasks. Multimedia, virtual reality
etc. They have more uses.
These types of operating systems are used in multi-processor
operating systems, where more than one processor is engaged in the system. The
technique to use more than one processor is called parental processing.
Embedded Operating
System - embedded systems are such operating systems that are present in
any electronics or other types of hardware devices that are present in the ROM
only, they can be used in home appliances such as microwave ovens, washing
machines, Car Management System, Traffic Control System, etc.
Distributed Operating
Systems These run various applications using many processors, and these
applications or software are also used by many users, they are also called
lozely coupled operating systems. The advantage of this is that users get
access to a lot of resources and if a system worsens then other systems can be
used.
